Loosen Your Grip!
Are you wobbling all through centre practice in class? Take a look at how you perform your barre exercises. Are you leaning on the barre or gripping so tight that your knuckles turn white? If you answered yes to the above questions then chances are you’re relying on the barre and not developing the strength and correct placement for strong centre work – which is the whole point of barre exercises!
Next class make sure to check your grip – place your fingers on top and rest your thumb alongside your fingers to prevent yourself from clenching the barre. You can also test yourself by lifting your hand off the barre every now and then to check your balance and see how much you are actually relying on the barre.
By loosening your grip at the barre you should see an improvement in your centre work.
